GUESS WHO IS THIS!

Cataclysmic morning

5.27am - alarm clock rang ominously.

5.30 - climbed out of bed slothfully, still knackered.

5.31 - entered bathroom and have my teeth brushed.

5.36 - teetered back to room to check the exam venue.

5.37 - ohhh, so its D3SR6. Wait, WHAT!!! Y does it say Wednesday 27.9.06, H2 Mathematics (1230) on the left column??!! Isnt it supposed to be chemistry today??!!

5.38 - flabbergasted. Felt as if some satanic force has perniciously led me towards the graveyards of discordantly dilapidated and vindictively crucifying death. Incarcerated by this overwhelming feeling for a while.

5.40 - 'Mum, im cabbing to sch cos i studied for the wrong subj. Its math today instead of chem!' Mum: oh ok...

5.41 - wolfing down my breakfast.

5.46 - dashed into bathroom for daily morning shower.

6.03 - burst out of bathroom and scurried into bedroom. Flipped notes precipitately to Chapter 4A - Differentiation l - Techniques of Differentiation and Limits. Smsed crystal, 'thought its chem today instead of math. Studied for the wrong subj. Die...'

6.04 - continued with my attempt to salvage the situation.

6.14 - crystal's mum replied, 'Isnt it math today? ok, just try to do whatever you can. Should not be too much of a problem for you.' (Was too jittery to really remember the exact words)

6.16 - crystal's mum sent another msg, 'Do not panic. Just stay calm.' (Not very sure if those are the exact words as well) Glanced through the msges briefly and carried on reading notes.

6.21 - crystal's msg, 'that was my mum btw. Told u she always looks through my msgs. Dont worry too much ok:)' (Also not very sure if these are the exact words)

6.21 - 7.30 - mugging profusely to hopefully absorb as much info as possible, ignoring the beads of exasperation that began to entrench me from all sides.

7.32 - packed everything and bolted out of the hse.

7.36 - fortunate enough to be able to flag down a cab at sucha short time. 'Sir, could you pls ensure that i reach Raffles Junior College in half an hour? Cos i am rushing for an exam. Drop me off along Braddell Rd pls.' Taxi-driver, 'ok, shall try my best.' 'Thanks.' Chatted with the driver throughout the journey.

7.42 - signs of traffic jam along PIE.

7.43 - 7.55 - egregiously slow traffic for the exit to Lornie Rd. 'Sir, do u think i can make it on time? i need to reach my sch by 8.' Taxi-driver, 'i will try my best but i can't guarantee that u can make it. It all depends on the traffic.' 'Thanks.'

7.56 - escaped out of the bottleneck, back to less heavy traffic.

8.02 - reached rj backgate.

Apocalyptic day for chinyue. 927 catastrophe =(

Minimum Efficient Scale

Since maria thinks tt i shld know more abt minimum efficient scale, i shall do an entry on it.

Firstly, whats minimum efficient scale? The minimum efficient scale (MES) is the output for a business in the long run where the internal economies of scale have been fully exploited. It corresponds to the lowest point on the long run average total cost curve and is also known as the output of long run productive efficiency. Hence, the MES achieves production of a good at the lowest possible opportunity cost, which means its not possible to produce a good at any lower cost than at the minimum efficient scale. At this quantity the production involves foregoing the least amount of other goods. The MES is rarely a single output - more likely its a range of output levels where average cost is minimised where the firm achieves constant returns to scale. In other words, while minimum efficient scale is often specified in terms of "the quantity of production," it need not be a single quantity. It could be a range of output. The reason is tt long-run average cost is subject to two influences, economies of scale (and increasing returns to scale) for small production levels and diseconomies of scale (and decreasing returns to scale) for larger production levels. Therefore, the MES is the production quantity or range of quantities in which these two influences balance out or, in which the economies of scale have been exhausted, but the diseconomies of scale have not yet surfaced. This could be a single quantity, a turning point on the long-run average cost curve, or it could be a range of output. The MES will vary from industry to industry depending on the nature of the cost structure in a particular sector of the economy. When the ratio of fixed to variable costs is very high, there is great potential for reducing the average cost of production.

The graph below presents the long-run average cost curve for the production of Wacky Willy Stuffed Amigos (those cute and cuddly armadillos, tarantulas, and scorpions). The negatively-sloped range for relatively small quantities of output is the result of economies of scale. Over this range, workers and machinery become increasingly specialized, volume discounts r given on electricity prices, auxiliary activities begin springing up around the Wacky Willy factory, and markets r emerging for some of the bi-products.
As the scale of production increases, these economies of scale r exhausted and diseconomies take hold. This is reflected in the positively-sloped portion of the long-run average cost curve. Diseconomies of scale result cos the factory is so big, with so many workers and levels of management, tt its increasingly difficult to manage. Moreover, bcos The Wacky Willy Company is the primary employer in Shady Valley, labor prices rise as Wacky Willy employment increases. The minimum point on the long-run average cost curve occurs where economies of scale give way to diseconomies, and a production quantity of 300. This is the MES for the production of Wacky Willy Stuffed Amigos. As far as the opportunity cost of foregone production is concerned, Wacky Willy cannot produced Stuffed Amigos at a lower per unit cost than at this MES.

The extent to which economies of scale can be exploited in the long run will vary btwn different industries. In some the minimum efficient scale is reached at a relatively low level of output. The internal scale economies r limited and there is room for many separate businesses to achieve the MES. With a natural monopoly, the cost structure is different. For eg, in industries where massive networks or national distribution channels r required, the overhead costs relative to the running costs r likely to be high. Theres also likely to be great potential to exploit technical economies of scale. As a result the MES may be a high proportion of total market demand. There may be room only for one business to fully exploit the economies of scale available in the industry. We assume for a natural monopoly that the long-run average cost curve falls continuously over a very large range of output. This is shown in the diagram below.

Ok, tts abt it. Pls feel free to add on whatever i have missed out or correct any mistakes made =)

Another cool pic!

Amazing optical illusion! If ur eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, u will only see 1 colour, pink. However if u stare at the black "+" in the centre, the moving dot turns to green. Now concentrate on the black "+" in the centre of the pic. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, n u will only see a green dot rotating. Its just so fascinating how our brain works. There really isnt any green dot n the pink ones really dont disappear.

badminton :)

wee i just came back from bmt (badminton). each time i go to play i feel so...free. it's been a long time since i went back to play and for these two weeks (we play once a week) it's been reaaaaaaaaaaaally exhilarating so yup regretted not going back to play earlier. lolz yes ok do u'll know wat i'm talking abt? nvm if u'll don't cos i just wanna share my bliss :)

so yup after all these mugging...sobz ok not that i really mugged cos i still played 2 games of dota and watched devil's advocate with my bro today...but ki is so... ARGH mug until dono wat to mug then after mug still don't know anything so aiya give don't mug lor :) ok um back to wat i was saying after all these mugging these kinda things (referring to bmt) is so valuable in just releasing and forgetting pent up stress and worries for the moment. so yea really treasure the bmt sessions each week.

and to all u guys... anyone who's feeling depressed by the upcoming promos, wanna share a quote that my bro framed up for me and my sis.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond imagination. It is our light more than our darkness which scares us. We ask ourselves - who are we to be brilliant, beautiful, talented, and fabulous. But honestly, who are you to not be so?

You are a child of God, small games do not work in this world. For those around us to feel peace, it is not example to make ourselves small. We were born to express the glory of God that lives in us. It is not in some of us, it is in ALL of us. While we allow our light to shine, we unconsciously give permission for others to do the same. When we liberate ourselves from our own fears, simply our presence may liberate others"

i don't really wanna analyze the quote... it'd just shatter the beauty and mystery of it so intepret it how u will, cynically or inspirationally. to me, it's beautiful :)

remember this, liben?

studying! everyone is so uptight... it's the most studious sept hols i've seen... i used to spend sept hols playing it away... definitely not studying but this time seems like everyone (including me) is so caught up with the promos. wonder why the change of heart... maybe it's the atmosphere. were the j2s like that? or maybe the teachers' emphasis on how lousy we are as a batch got to us -.-

so here i am after studying in school until 9. yes 9!!! so powerful study in school leh... until 9 some more. lolz ok so shameless but i don't feel like studying anymore. i think i'll read my othello or something. don't wanna do any work or move my brains. shud i look thru the no-matter-how-many-times-i-read-thru-still-forget chem organic summary or shud i read my thick wad of lit notes that i just received?

Woots, it seems like its the mugging season, as evident on this blog. But i m not talking abt a period of instability, chaos n violence when pple get accosted n intimidated as they r robbed. Its this part of the yr when pple start studying, cramping n memorising amid this widespread frisson of excitement (or alarm?). So wish all of u gd luck for the upcoming promos!!!

I LOVE U ALL TO BITS N PIECES, AS WELL!!!

=)

it doesn't matter if we come home everyday to print stuff, paste stuff, write stuff, sew stuff. it doesn't matter if our hands get pricked by needles, or if we had to travel to malaysia to get the presents, or if we had to run from one place to another, it doesn't matter if we lost our way and it doesn't matter if we had to get up early, and it doesn't matter if people we love dont understand how much we love you

the only thing that mattered was that we truly surprised you and we made your 17th an unforgettable one, and that we got closer because of this (: yay

and the smiles
omt! ((:

its all that matters

we were all masterminds, i wasnt the one (:

the nice picture we took! (:

SURPRISE SURPRISE!

before i begin, let me say.

OH MY GAHD.

I LOVE YOU GUYS TO BITS!!!

like seriously. BEST BIRTHDAY SURPRISE EVER!

okay this is how it went.

i remember talking to liben online last night. and HE DIDN'T DROP A SINGLE HINT. i was asking to see his phone and he said i'll see it in a week. i was thinking, i thought the surprise is sometime this week? but then again, liben being the blur fella we all know, probably didn't know about the surprise either. TURNS OUT I WAS SO WRONG! i was talking about whether we were going out today and he said he didn't think so. I WAS SO SAD!

and when i was about to sleep i was just thinking to myself, would they be coming to surprise me tmr? but then i either fell asleep right after, or simply dismissed the thought cos i remember what liben said, and what crystal said about having piano today!

HO HO HO.

the exciting part.

woke up this morning, heard my sister talking on the phone to someone and telling him/her i was asleep. so i said "no i'm not, pass me the phone." but she quickly put it down. something told me it'd be crystal soh harn wei. so i picked up the phone to check caller id and called back immediately. she picked it up and went very softly,"is this clare?" i was like,"NO IT'S PAMELA LOO. STUPID GIRL, CALL ME FOR WHAT!" hahahaha i'm sorry crystal ):

anyway she hung up the phone immediately and i thought she was mad or something. so i went back to sleep. about an hour later, i woke up again. AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED!

I SAW A FACE.

A FAMILIAR HORRIBLE NOT-SO-NICE ONE.

A GUY'S FACE.

IN MY ROOM.

ON A FRIDAY MORNING.

I SCREAMED. LIKE REALLY," AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

MR TAN EE CHONG!

of all people, OH MY GAHD.

hahaha then there was laughter followed my many I'M SURE LAHs! and when i finally did regain composure, i made my way downstairs to find the hall oddly empty.

then i saw movement, near my front door. and went,"I'M SURE YOU ALL HIDE THERE LA!" and very foolishly went over, CLAD IN MY UNGLAM HOMERUN SHIRT AND ROUND-CUT FBT SHORTS.

and then i saw

A SILVER CAMERA staring straight at me from behind the sofa. we all know what happened next.

"AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

*pam collapses and falls on floor covering her pimply oily scarred face*

while the hall erupts in laughter and people emerge from their hiding places.

(uncut super unglam video's with mr zhang liben)

oh my goodness i still can't believe i fell for it even after miss crystal soh harn wei dropped like one hint every day about the surprise for the past 2 weeks.

yup so after changing out of my pyjamas we had cake (shall leave liben's side of his surprise to him) and they gave us each a present and a scrapbook!

NICE RIGHT!

thanks crystal so so so much for the late nights and getting pricked by needles! i'm so sorry for still screaming at you and all. you've no idea how touched i am! if not for the camera staring right into my ugly face (thanks liben) i think i would've cried! LOVE YOU BABE!

and THANKS EVERYONE for the lovely messages and pictures, for being in cahoots with crystal and working it out. YOU GUYS ROCK! oh my goodness I LOVE YOU ALL!

yup so we sat down and played good ol' pomelo. i lost one of the 2 games ): but i somehow got past truth or dare (i think we got distracted or something) hohoho.

then dear eechong had to leave for pw or something. realised i never thanked him so:

THANKS FOR THE SHOCK BUDDY! i hope my scream didn't impair your sense of hearing. but yeah i'm not exactly used to having GUYS in my room on friday mornings. and i don't exactly sleep very glam-ly so it ain't a nice sight to see. thanks anyway! i'll try and be less mean.

after some time we set off for cineleisure where we took neoprints and had lunch at the food court. then,

KBOX.

my favourite man. HAHA WHO AM I KIDDING! but it's liben aka birthday boy's hobby so we went! and it's the first time i actually had FUN!

mel's singing is like MEGA nice (note the choice of words. sounds familiar?) and liben's ain't too bad either (ahem you owe me for publicity). suat was good too, and chinyue? uh no comments la hor. hahahahaha kidding!

anyway so yes, we kboxed all afternoon and took neos again after that.

this post is soooo long. but the essence lies here!

THANKS CRYSTAL, SUAT, CHINYUE, LIBEN, MEL, SHARON, EECHONG, QIANHUA, CLARA, LILING, XUHUI AND MISS CHUA SO SO SO SO SO SO SOOO MUCH FOR ALL THE PLANNING AND HARD WORK. you guys have no idea how touched and thankful i am for friends like you! never had such a surprise before and i must say it's the best birthday i've had (though not on the actual day itself but who cares) i'm so glad God let us meet in Cambridge and gave us soo many memories to take away from this trip. most importantly, this special friendship that will hopefully last us a looong loong time. i'm sorry for the deafening screams and incessant I'M SURE LAHs and i promise to be a nicer friend!

I LOVE YOU ALL SO SO MUCH!

thanks again for the best birthday EVER (:
